Although we provide information about news programs that air all over the United States, this guide focuses to a certain extent on the media that is specifically available in Washington, D.C. Of particular importance is the link to MHZ channel 56 (broadcast and cable). In our increasingly interconnected world it is crucial that political leaders and citizens become sensitive to events happening around the globe. This guide enables ordinary citizens and political leaders to stay informed on a day-to-day basis. In some cases, though, staying informed is no substitute for in-depth education. Our other projects provide resources that may be used for this in-depth education and in connection with this guide. Educating American citizens and political leaders about the world's cultures is an integral part of our Global Education Project. To help people learn about their planet and to participate in a constructive manner in the system we have created the WFF Global Future Watch Indicators System. Some of its key charts are already on the web (see WFF Global Indicators Charts). In addition to this specialized guide, the World Future Fund has also compiled an extensive Guide to the Television Media. The links in this guide include some news programs and channels, as well as programs and channels of general interest. Our general collection of links and the television news guide on this page are both a part of the World Future Fund's Global Media and Popular Culture Project, which provides information on and links to television, popular music, the print media, radio, art, and the online media from around the world. Users of this guide please note that it is not comprehensive. We believe, however, that it is a good start. In the future, we plan to add more material but we want to keep the guide's length short and efficient for use by busy leaders and citizens. Representatives (when in session) C-SPAN presents some live and constantly updated coverage of the United States Government at work. C-SPAN has become essential for monitoring current U.S. Government affairs and wider events in the U.S. political system. News presented on C-SPAN broadcasts government responses to economic and environmental trends. Among the many useful C-SPAN channels are the American Writers series and Book Television, which broadcast interviews with recent authors. The Public Broadcasting System, supported by viewers across the U.S., presents programming for viewers of all educational levels. In the Washington, DC area alone, PBS runs three channels: WETA (channel 26 in most areas); WHUT (channel 32, from Howard University); and Maryland Public Television (channel 22). Lehrer, shown nightly at 7PM MHZ presents more than 20 original news broadcasts from around the world, many of these broadcasts air live in their native languages. Newscasts from Canada, Chile, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Spain make up MHz's daily lineup. It contain links to TV stations all over the world and can provide both broadband and and dial-up access to news and other forms of video. The first 24 hour news station, CNN has become one of the most important sources of international news. CNN constantly updates its website and news programs with the most news accurate to the half hour. CNN also incorporates a news ticker at the bottom of the screen during all broadcasts.
